My father has always been the strength of our home. The person who took care of us and made sure we were safe. But, after the 31st of March 2025, I began to worry about what lies ahead for him.
In a split second, everything changed on that fateful day. My father, Bishwajit suffered a severe brain hemmorhage.
One moment, he was with us, and the next, he was rushed into emergency surgery. The doctors performed a decompressive craniectomy to save his life. While the surgery helped him survive, it left him with life-altering consequences.
Today, my father is completely paralyzed on his right side. He cannot speak. He cannot express his pain, his thoughts, or even his needs.
Sometimes, he just looks at us… and in his eyes, we see everything he cannot say. As a son, it breaks me to see the man who once held my hand now unable to even stand on his own feet.
The doctors have advised a long journey of stroke rehabilitation, including physiotherapy, speech therapy, and cognitive therapy for the next 4 months. Only after this can he undergo the cranioplasty surgery, which is crucial for his recovery.
This journey is not just physically exhausting, it is emotionally and financially overwhelming.
We are a small family, my grandmother, my mother, my father, and me. My mother is the only earning member, working as a primary school teacher. We have already taken loans and borrowed from friends and relatives, but it is still not enough.
We still need lakhs more to continue his treatment.
My father’s only dream now is to walk, speak, live independently, and spend time with us like before.
