What Is Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)?
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a severe genetic condition that gradually weakens the muscles responsible for movement, breathing, and swallowing.
Over time, children with SMA lose the ability to sit, stand, or walk. Without treatment, the disease continues to progress and can become fatal.
Ruthvika was born without a critical gene called SMN1 — the gene her body needs to keep her muscles strong. With every passing day, irreversible muscle loss occurs.
She did nothing to deserve this.
One Chance at Life: Zolgensma
Doctors have told us there is only one treatment that can stop SMA at its root — Zolgensma, a one-time gene replacement therapy.
Zolgensma works by replacing the missing gene, helping to stop further muscle damage and giving children like Ruthvika a chance to live a longer, healthier, and more independent life.
