My name is Rimi, and I’m the mother of little Radhika, my miracle baby. She came into our world just a month ago, born early at 34 weeks. Tiny, fragile, but so full of promise. I still remember the first time I held her, her fingers barely wrapped around mine.
But within weeks, our joy turned into heartbreak.
A few days ago, Radhika suddenly developed a high fever. Her tiny body trembled with convulsions, and her skin turned pale. We rushed her to the hospital in the dead of night, wrapped in a thin blanket, her cries fading. That night, everything changed.
The doctors told us she has acute kidney injury and a severe infection in her blood–sepsis. Her kidney function is shutting down. She was shifted to the NICU and placed on a ventilator. She is still there, too weak to breathe on her own, her body fighting to stay alive.
We’re terrified and we’re running out of time.
My husband sells fish in the local market, earning Rs. 400 a day. I stay at home to care for our children. We’ve built a life on love and simplicity, but this? This is something no parent can ever be ready for.
Just days ago, I was rocking her to sleep. Now, I stand beside her hospital crib, unable to touch her through the wires and machines. I speak to her softly, praying she can hear me, that she knows her mother is here.
The cost of her treatment is in lakhs, an amount far beyond our reach. Every hour matters. Every small act of support can help save her life. As a mother, all I want is to hold her again, healthy, breathing, safe.
