I have never known anyone who puts as much care, patience and love towards their family as my mother has done. All that she ever wanted was to lead a happy and normal life, but today, my mother, Chaitali, is lying in a hospital bed, fighting for her life.

She was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Regurgitation, and doctors advised urgent heart surgery. We were relieved when the surgery was successful, believing we would soon take her home.

But fate had other plans….

Soon after the operation, my mother suffered a stroke. Before she could even recover, the surgical wound became infected. Now, she battles severe pneumonia along with serious fungal and bacterial infections at the site of her open-heart surgery.

Doctors at Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences are doing everything they can to save her. “She urgently needs vacuum-assisted wound therapy, surgical debridement, and plastic surgery once the infection is controlled,” they said.

The last few months have drained us emotionally and financially. We have already spent more than 6 lakh rupees, using all our savings, selling our family's gold, and accepting help from relatives. I am the only earning member of our family, and despite doing everything I can, I can no longer manage these mounting medical expenses alone.

My little daughter asks me every day, “When will grandma come home?” I have no answer except for hope. The hope is my dream, to see my mother hold her grandchild and return to the home she built with so much love, care and affection.
