“I’ve seen her endure so much pain, yet she never complains. She deserves a chance to live without suffering.” — Shubham (Son)

In January 2023, everything changed.
My mother, Suman, began having difficulty breathing. At first, we thought it was something minor—maybe a seasonal allergy or an infection. We took her to AIIA, Delhi, believing medicines would make her better. But as weeks passed, her breathing worsened. I watched her go from walking around the house to gasping for air after just a few steps.
Then came the diagnosis that shattered us—Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). The doctor said, “Her lungs are turning to stone.” Those words still echo in my mind.

We immediately shifted her to AIIMS Delhi, trusting the best doctors to save her. Since then, our life has revolved around hospitals, oxygen cylinders, and sleepless nights. My mother has been rushed to the emergency room five times, each time struggling to breathe on her own. She has endured strong immunosuppressants, anti-fibrosis medicines, inhalers, nebulization, and continuous oxygen therapy—yet, ILD keeps progressing.
Now, 80% of her lungs are permanently damaged, and she’s surviving on just 15% lung capacity. Every breath is a battle. Yet, she still smiles and says, “I’m okay,” just to ease our pain.
She is only 42 years old—too young to be fighting for every breath. My mother dreams of living a normal life again: to see her sons get married, to travel, and to simply laugh without running out of breath.
But ILD doesn’t stop. The only way to save her now is through an urgent bilateral lung transplant—her only chance at survival.

Ongoing Treatment Update:
We have completed her pre-evaluation for the bilateral lung transplant. Recently, she was hospitalised for 5 days at KIMS Hospital, Hyderabad, due to infection and pre-evaluation procedures.
Currently, my mother is bedridden and kept in strict isolation, dependent on 24×7 oxygen support. She is on high-dose steroids and immunosuppressant medications to keep her breathing stable. Her condition is extremely fragile—her oxygen levels drop instantly if the concentrator is removed, and the transplant surgery has been lined up on urgent priority to be performed as soon as a suitable donor is found.
We’ve exhausted all our savings on her ongoing treatments and hospitalizations. The cost of the lung transplant and post-operative care runs into several lakhs, far beyond what our family can manage.

How You Can Help:
My mother has spent her life giving love and strength to everyone around her. Now, she needs that strength back—from you.
Your contribution, no matter how small, can give her the second chance at life she deserves.
Please donate to support her lung transplant and share this story to help us reach more people.
